Cap, Garrison

Three World War II U.S. Army Garrison Caps. During World War II the Garrison Cap was widely used by all services. Garrison Caps were produced in dark Olive Drab wool as well as in khaki to go with the khaki cotton summer uniform. The piping on the Garrison Cap was referred to as the “hat cord” or “braid” which were either pure colors or a base color with a second color “piped” into the cord. Cap A is an olive drab garrison cap that has Ultramarine blue piping with golden orange, which indicates that the soldier was a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps. Cap B is a khaki garrison cap that has Ultramarine blue piping with golden orange as well. The piping is almost identical to that of cap A, indicated the U.S. Army Air Corps. Cap C s a khaki garrison cap that has Ultramarine blue piping with golden orange checkers, which is different than the other two caps, but probably also signifies the Air Corps.
